Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD)

Avonex ® contains albumin, a derivative of human blood.

Based on effective donor screening and product manufacturing processes, it carries an extremely remote risk for transmission of viral and prion diseases.

A theoretical risk exists therefore, for transmission of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) although this risk is considered extremely remote.

No cases of transmission of viral (prion) diseases or CJD have been identified for albumin.
